Two Flutes One Harmony　Debut Concert in Denmark

  • Two bamboo flutes. Two cultures. One musical journey.

    The traditional Japanese bamboo flutes, shinobue and shakuhachi, each possess their own unique history, character, and sound.

    Although both instruments originate from Japan, they have followed different musical paths over the centuries. In this special performance, these two voices come together to build a bridge between Japan and Denmark, creating a musical dialogue that transcends borders.

    The concert will take place at KoncertKirken, a beautiful concert church in the heart of Copenhagen.

    Special guest artists in dance and shinobue will also appear, creating a celebration of Japanese culture through music and art.

    Yasukazu Kano, one of Japan’s premier masters of the shinobue—the traditional Japanese bamboo flute—has performed for the Emperor and Empress of Japan, graced the stage at the Milan Expo, and captivated audiences in over 30 countries worldwide.
    And this time, for the very first time ever, he is here in Denmark!

    Sharing the stage with him in the second half is Mayu Kamiya, a Japanese calligraphy artist based right here in Denmark.
    Bringing the deep tradition and spirit of Japanese calligraphy to life, Mayu poetically interprets Japanese words inspired by her encounters here—from local materials, from the rich stories of Vejle, and most importantly, from you, our audience tonight.

    Shinobue (traditional Japanese bamboo flute) artist Yasukazu KANO, who has performed more than 2,000 concerts in over 30 countries, will present his first-ever concert in the Czech Republic.

    On Friday, September 11, 2026, he will give a special performance at Zen House, a traditional Japanese tea room located beside the Japanese restaurant Miyabi in Prague.

    With seating limited to a small audience, this intimate concert offers a rare opportunity to experience the delicate, natural sound of the shinobue up close and to connect with the performer in a peaceful setting.

    Come and enjoy an evening of Japanese music, culture, and a heartfelt message of peace.

  • We Are Preparing a Unique Musical Experience from Japan. This autumn, we warmly invite you to a special encounter with traditional Japanese music at the National Gallery Prague.

    One of the world’s leading performers of the traditional Japanese bamboo flute shinobue, Yasukazu Kano, will visit the Czech Republic to introduce audiences to the instrument’s distinctive sound, rich history, and its remarkable role in contemporary musical expression.

    The programme will begin with a short public performance in the foyer of the National Gallery, followed by an intimate lecture accompanied by live musical demonstrations. Visitors will embark on a journey from the ancient sounds of Japanese festivals and traditional theatre to Yasukazu Kano’s original contemporary compositions inspired by nature, the wind, birdsong, and the landscapes of Japan.

    Come and discover an instrument capable of whispering as gently as a bamboo grove in the breeze, yet powerful enough to stand alongside the thunderous sound of traditional Japanese taiko drums.

Shinobue Mini Workshop, Mini Concert & Meet-up with Yasukazu Kano

  • Experience the beautiful sound of the Japanese bamboo flute – Shinobue!
    For one special evening, renowned shinobue player Kano Yasukazu (狩野泰一) from Japan will visit Stockholm for an intimate workshop and concert.
    Whether you’re curious about Japanese traditional music, would like to try playing the shinobue yourself, or simply enjoy a beautiful live performance, everyone is welcome!
